5 Ways to Nurture Your Child

Childhood is a time that undergoes rapid change. This is the time; where the child needs to be nurtured and cared.

Nurturing is essential for a child’s growth and development – a secret element that enables children to grow mentally, physically, emotionally and socially.

You may have enrolled your child in a famous international school, with a thought that your child will excel and succeed in future. However, the fact is that as a parent you should also put in some efforts personally to nurture your own kid.

It’s not an easy job to nurture and build a positive relationship with your child. However, with patience and love – you can do it!

Here are 5 ways you can use:

Listen To Your Child’s Feelings

Your child always wants to feel heard while he/she expresses feelings. Whether the kid is just 6 months old or 14 years old, attention is what they seek from you at every stage.
Our children want to be heard. They want to be respected. They want to know they matter more than anyone else because they are ours. And once they get that required attention, they start feeling loved and cherished by someone they own.

Encourage Your Child
Encourage your child to learn new things and reward them for their achievements rather than dwelling on setbacks. This will give your child something positive to aim for and do better in the future.
At the same time, showing them how to lose or win gracefully will help your child to develop the resilience they’ll need to face failure and to keep trying until they succeed in life.

Teach Social Skills
It’s important that you teach your child some social skills at an early age. It will teach them how to communicate, to share, to negotiate, and to solve their own disagreements.
Spending regular time with extended family, attending family or cultural events, or accompanying them during normal tasks like grocery shopping or evening cycling etc; are some examples that you can follow to imbibe social skills in your child.

Teach Problem-Solving Skills
Most of the time, kids (and adults) feel their emotions are not understood and accepted, the feelings lose their charge and begin to dissipate. At such circumstances, teach your child to breathe through them, feel them, tolerate them, to problem-solve them and act when necessary.
Problem-solving skill will make your child emotionally and mentally strong and help him face the new challenges that come his way in future.

Allow Children To Be Themselves
Children come pre-packaged as unique individuals with their own preferences and ways of doing things. You don’t want your kid to be a replica of someone else, rather make an effort to let them be themselves and offer the world something unique than the rest.

Some parents do get very anxious to do their best and worry that they may not be adequately nurturing their children, or that they may not be nurturing their children the right way.  So here, it’s important to remember that nurturing is a creative and spontaneous activity that can take many forms. It has to come naturally so that you are able to connect to your child in a better way.

There are many international schools in Mumbai that aim to nurture children effectively so that they grow physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, culturally, and spiritually. With quality education for growth and development, the school strives to construct a personality within a child that’s not only unique but a one that caters to the future world.
